By far one of the best sites you can get listed on and look for info is the Africa Overland Site, Its also worth checking out the sister sites - Overland Live & Overland Live Blog. All of them have lots of data and trip info on past, current and future trips. Its a good place to start your adventure and to check out other people's adventures as they happen live, along with presentations and pod casts.

The Horizons Unlimited site is more for bikers but has 4x4 section in it too. This site has a VERY comprehensive forum called The HUBB with 100s of threads with people posting information to it all the time, especially on things like border crossings, travel tips, news, equipment, routes and experiences along the way. Get a profile and get stuck in. A very similar site is the Expedition Portal that has a more 4x4 focus for the Americas. Its packed full of useful data and worth a visit if you are planning a RTW / USA, South America trip. They also have a growing focus on Europe and Africa.
